Dear friends and family,
Welcome to YOUR blog. All throughout election day, my thoughts were on trying to remember everything I saw, felt and lived through those historic hours where we could see that a change HAS come. A group of us were in Harlem, USA, we all took pictures, and had various experiences that we wanted to share with each others...but the texts and the calls came from around the world, it was too beautiful to let pass without documenting and sharing with all of you. The goal of this blog is for all of us to post our stories, funny moments, experiences, photos, comments, videos and be able to re-live the moment through someone else's eyes...

On election night I went to a houseparty in my hometown, Riverside, CA, to watch the results. Most of the people there I was meeting for the first time that evening. We watched the results on Comedy Central to break the tension of waiting. When we heard the concession speech by McCain we knew that the results we hoped for were becoming a reality! We could all breathe easier. The acceptance speech by Obama was amazing. I walked home alone enjoying the calm, quiet night, along the path I walked many times as a child. I ended up contemplating the future and remembering the past, listening to the train go by, and the coyotes howling in the hills. Unfortunately, Prop 8 in California passed, and same sex marriage is no longer legal here. So, along with the triumph of hope, we were reminded of the divisions that still exist in our communities.
Seattle, WA...I lived in Seattle for ten years, and a friend sent me the following story about election night there...
Around 3,000 people spontaneously gathered at the intersection of Broadway and Pike. People were drinking and clapping, dancing, and chanting; some people showed up in costumes, some people brought sparklers, some people brought fireworks. The police arrived and said nothing of the drinking in the street, asked no one to leave, just happily took pictures with people and
re-directed traffic. At some point, Neighbors (a gay club) put
speakers on the roof and blasted Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" for the crowd, followed at some point by a Drag Queen leading the crowd in a drunken but evidently sincere rendition of the star spangled banner. Supposedly, around 2:30 am, the police asked people to wind it down and leave -- but before leaving, several people, drunk as they were,
cleaned up the street w/ brooms and trash bags bought at the QFC (open 24 hours) on the corner. Only in Seattle would they bother sweeping up, huh? Crazy!
Here's a video of a bit of the party...
